Francis Howell spikers ready for state after breaking quarterfinal drought against Timberland

  Last weekend marked the end of three years of frustration for the Francis Howell girls volleyball team. The Vikings had been bounced from the quarterfinal round by Marquette in 2013, and then St. Joseph’s Academy the past two seasons. Then last Saturday arrived and the Vikings, hosting the quarterfinals on their own floor, made sure they claimed their spot for the Class 4 tournament. St. Peters figure skater qualifies for U.S Figure Skating Association championships

Qualifying for the U.S Figure Skating Association championships was always a major goal for Angelina Huang, but one she figured would come much later in her figure skating career. That was until hard work and opportunity met in perfect convergence right before Thanksgiving when Huang, a 12-year-old individual figure skater with a tireless work ethic, competed and won the Gold Medal in the Juvenile Ladies Division of the 2015 Midwest Sectional meet in Geneva, Illinois. Off the ice teamwork helps to get the job done

The Parkway West varsity hockey team can do more than skate and shoot the puck. As part of its annual giving back to others, the Longhorns conducted a community service event recently, helping out at Circle Star Ranch, a program of the Erin Eickmeier Foundation. Boys Basketball preview

It’s time to tip off another high school boys basketball season. CBC won the Class 5 state championship last year and the Cadets’ coach Justin Tatum has two starters back. Tatum is casting his squad as underdogs who will “need to play with a chip on our shoulder” this season. Chaminade will be competing with CBC for supremacy in the Metro Catholic Conference. In the recent state swimming and diving championships at the Rec-Plex in St. Peters, Parkway North senior Jared Dachroeden finished fifth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 45.74 seconds. Vikings coach Bart Prosser said he was impressed with Dachroeden’s performance. “It was a school record and his personal best,” Prosser said. “He also holds the 100 back school record and it was his personal best at state.” Dachroeden finished 10th at state in the 100 back with a time of 53.62 seconds. High school girls cross country

The Lafayette Lancers finished a program-best second in the recent Class 4 state cross country meet held at the Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City. The Lancers finished with 103 points. Nerinx Hall won state with 83 points. Coach Scott Brandon was pleased with how well his girls performed this season. “The Lafayette Lady Lancers had an exceptional year,” Brandon said. “This is a very special team.
