Bulletin Board: Student earns ACT perfection

Student earns ACT perfection Elise Kaminski, a junior at Francis Howell High, has earned a perfect score on the ACT college placement test. Kaminski is the second Viking student to earn a perfect score this year. Baking bread for charity

Students at Ellisville Elementary put their baking skills to the test and donated their creations to two local food pantries. The students were learning, baking and sharing through the King Arthur Flour Bake for Good Program. “The students were proud of themselves for baking a loaf of bread, but also because they helped a family in need,” said fifth-grade teacher Cheryl Hunn. Students used math, science and reading skills to create two loaves of delicious bread – one to keep and one to share. The Ascension Early Childhood Center – The Little School – celebrated its 20th birthday on Friday, Oct. 3. The Little School welcomed its first students in September 1995. Many things have changed throughout the past 20 years, but the philosophy and mission of the school have remained the same. The Little School offers Catholic early education to children two to five years of age. Local schools seek solutions to America’s ‘trades deficit’

America is suffering a trades deficit. While the problem of fewer skilled workers entering the labor pool is not new, it is reaching a critical point. Data collected by staffing expert ManpowerGroup estimates that approximately 60 percent of all skilled laborers – defined as welders, electricians and machinists – are age 45 and older. Peabody awards two Parkway educators

Shelly Farinella, counselor at Fern Ridge High, and Jason Lievanos, sixth-grade world geography teacher at West Middle, were surprised with Peabody Energy Leaders in Education awards. The Leaders in Education program rewards dedicated and compassionate educational professionals with awards and recognition at an annual dinner reception. District wins budget award for ninth year

For the ninth consecutive year, the Francis Howell School District has won the Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International. The award is conferred only to school systems that have met or exceeded the Meritorious Budget Award criteria. The award was for the 2014-15 budget, prepared by Chief Financial Officer Kevin Supple with assistance from Director of Finance Cindy Reilmann and the finance department staff.
