Francis Howell Central girls cagers make mark with strong playoff run

Last Saturday was a bittersweet experience for the Francis Howell Central girls basketball team but for the Spartans, their run in the Class 5 playoffs definitely reenergized the student body and the program.   The Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs had plenty of youth, energy, and desire when they faced defending champion Webster Groves on Saturday. Unfortunately, that was not nearly enough as the Statesmen, led by super recruits Courtney Ramey and Carte’Are Gordon. The super tandem played above the rim all night, driving Webster Groves to a 78-45 Class 5 quarterfinal win over the Bulldogs at Hyland Performance Arena on the campus of Lindenwood University. Whitfield uses big stops, clutch free throws to edge Duchesne in key small school clash

Amechi Ramsey had only two points for the Whitfield Warriors, but his two points ended up being the biggest of the night.     It was billed as a decided underdog in Francis Howell going against perennial power Hazelwood Central. After 44 crazy, gut-wrenching minutes of basketball, it will likely be remembered as a classic. Ambrose selected to represent Team USA in World Games in Austria This summer will be an exciting and busy time for youth basketball player Katie Ambrose. She was recently selected to play on the U-14 Team USA squad at the World Games in Klagenfurt, Austria on June 23.
