Foundation recognizes students for financial literacy

J. Todd Gentry and the MassMutual Foundation recently celebrated students in O’Fallon who participated in a digital financial education course at Fort Zumwalt Middle. The free FutureSmart SM digital curriculum was custom-made for middle schoolers and is available in both English and Spanish.

Technical education students receive job offers

For the first time, Boeing extended its Pre-Employment Training to students through St. Louis Community College. Six high school students from St. Charles and St. Louis counties, including three from Fort Zumwalt West High, went through an extensive application process to participate in the first Boeing Pre-Employment High School Class.

Musical theatre awards presented to local thespians

The third annual St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards winners were announced June 2 at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. The winners were named in 14 categories, plus the WOW! performance awards and special recognition awards. Timberland High placed in the “Outstanding Musical” category for its production of “The Addams Family.”

Francis Howell senior wins Mike Rowe scholarship

Francis Howell High senior Jimmy Johnson received a $1,000 scholarship from the mikeroweWORKS Foundation to attend the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, the week of June 24-28. The scholarship will pay for travel and other trip expenses.

A team of students from Fort Zumwalt West High has created a public service announcement. This year’s entry, created by Janae Taylor, Katie Pauk and Maddie Wieseman, focuses on how abuse knows no gender. Online voting is open until July 15.

Senior receives scholarship for golf skills

Timberland High senior Collin Rooney has been named the recipient of a Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies from The Western Golf Association. The Evans Scholarship is a full, four-year, tuition and housing scholarship for golf caddies and is awarded based on a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character.

Local students explore genetics

Middle school participants in Francis Howell’s Biomedical Science Camp kicked off summer by examining viruses, bacteria, and outbreaks of different diseases. Students also explored how to potentially cure genetic diseases by looking at DNA and genes. The 2019 camp, hosted by Francis Howell High, offers middle school students experience with Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science courses offered in high school.

Free archery training for teachers

The Missouri Department of Conservation will hold a basic archery instructor training for teachers from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25 at Living Word Christian Middle and High School, 1145 Tom Ginnever Avenue in O’Fallon.
