Francis Howell raises thousands for The BackStoppers Inc.

Francis Howell High hosted its 5th Annual First Responders’ Night football game on Friday, Sept. 6. The school took on the Kirkwood Pioneers while also raising money and awareness for The BaskStoppers, Inc. The organization's mission is to give financial assistance to families of fallen first responders.

Lord Stanley’s Cup comes to Castlio Elementary

On Aug. 26, the Stanley Cup took a trip to Castlio Elementary, where over 800 students and teachers got to see the silver cup up close and in person courtesy of St. Louis Blues Head Equipment Manager Joel Farnsworth. His children, fourth-grader Abby and first-grader Joel, attend Castlio.

Students compete at national conference

Local students Jimmy Johnson from Francis Howell High, Mason Aguilar from Francis Howell Central and Amanda Hasenbeck from Francis Howell North traveled to Louisville in June for the SkillsUSA’s 55th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference. More than 15,000 students, teachers, education leaders and representatives from 600 national corporations and labor unions participated in the event, which is also the world’s largest showcase of skilled trades and skill competitions.

Middle school students create apps

To close the summer school camp schedule, middle school-aged students from the Francis Howell School District explored coding and app development at App Camp. The students completed a variety of tasks throughout the camp to learn how to code. By the end of the week, they had the opportunity to create their own app that could be published on the Google Play Store.

Francis Howell senior wins Mike Rowe scholarship

Francis Howell High senior Jimmy Johnson received a $1,000 scholarship from the mikeroweWORKS Foundation to attend the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, the week of June 24-28. The scholarship will pay for travel and other trip expenses.

Local students explore genetics

Middle school participants in Francis Howell’s Biomedical Science Camp kicked off summer by examining viruses, bacteria, and outbreaks of different diseases. Students also explored how to potentially cure genetic diseases by looking at DNA and genes. The 2019 camp, hosted by Francis Howell High, offers middle school students experience with Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science courses offered in high school.
