Canines take center stage at West County’s own Museum of The Dog

Each Thanksgiving, thousands leave the dinner table and head to the TV to watch champions compete – not on the gridiron but in the show ring. These champions are four-legged athletes vying for Best of Show honors at The National Dog Show. Locally, the event will be closely followed by Stephen George, executive director of the AKC Museum of The Dog. New in the neighborhood A grand opening celebration was held on Nov. 8 for the newest Casey Ray’s STL Dog Trainers location, 16528 Manchester Road in Wildwood Crossing. A graduate of the National K-9 School for Dog Trainers, Casey Ray has been training dogs in the St. Louis metro area for more than 10 years using his “Balanced Training” philosophy, which emphasizes the use of veterinarian-recommended obedience training, behavioral modification, dog psychology and overall education. Chesterfield, West County malls open Thanksgiving night

Five St. Louis area shopping centers – Chesterfield Mall, Mid Rivers Mall, St. Clair Square, South County Center and West County Center – will open their doors at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving, Nov. 27. Select department stores including Macy’s and Sears, as well as some specialty stores will be open at 6 p.m.; JCPenney opens at 5 p.m. Additional stores will open throughout the evening and into the early morning. Health Capsules: Walking at work

Walking at work Besides providing the physical benefits one might expect, working at a walking workstation can give mental health a boost, too. Faculty and students in the School of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) recently evaluated 180 people who were working on computers either while seated, standing, cycling or walking. Researchers looked at workers’ levels of boredom, task satisfaction, stress, arousal and performance in each workstation scenario and found those working at walking workstations had better satisfaction and arousal and less boredom and stress than those at sitting and standing workstations. Selvidge Middle, among local schools, to pay tribute to veterans

Small U.S. flags lined the driveway at the entrance to Selvidge Middle School in Ballwin on Nov. 11. and many of those entering the building were clearly well beyond their school years. Inside, an atmosphere of celebration blended with the courteous and respectful attitude of the school’s students and faculty members as they paid tribute to veterans of U.S. Armed Forces on Veterans Day.
