St. Charles Economic Development Director Mike Klinghammer, a former member of the County Council, extolled the plan’s benefits, including environmental restoration, economic development, new riverfront attractions and links to existing attractions.

Scott Drachnik, president of the Economic Development Center of St. Charles County, gave a public presentation to the County Council on Monday, Dec. 21, as a scheduled item in the council’s final meeting of calendar year 2020.

Armed with signs and placards, many members of the crowd, during public comments, took the council and County Executive Steve Ehlmann to task for refusing to issue a county-wide mask mandate and for keeping schools open for in-person learning.

The Missouri Department of Highways and Transportation presented to the County Council on Nov. 30 its plan for a road design-build project along the I-70 corridor from Cave Springs Road to the Fairgrounds Road.

A discussion concerning the approval of a bid for upgrades to county election machinery led to a fairly pointed exchange between two County Council members and County Election Director Kurt Bahr at the council’s Nov. 9 meeting. At the heart of that discussion was the issue of election security.

On Oct. 26, the St. Charles County Council voted to approve a $1,432,497.78 bid submitted by NB West Contracting Co. for a construction endeavor at Missouri Route 364, which is known colloquially as the Heritage Crossing project.

In the face of a sharp surge in COVID-19 cases in St. Charles County and elsewhere, County Executive Steve Ehlmann addressed the issue at the County Council meeting on Monday, Oct. 26.

At its meeting on Oct. 13, the St. Charles County Council took up Emergency Bill No. 4893, which concerned the county accepting a grant of $667,919 from the Center for Tech and Civic Life.

On Aug. 31, the St. Charles County Council adopted the 2021-2025 Capital Program and Strategic Plan, which County Executive Steve Ehlmann had outlined during a work session on Monday, Aug. 23.

Public comments on the state of the county were divided into two large groups of speakers at the County Council meeting on Aug. 10 with back-to-school and masks being the major topics.
