Kate joined West Newsmagazine as its managing editor in 2012. She added managing editor of Mid Rivers Newsmagazine to her title in 2014. Kate came to the Newsmagazine Network from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where she most notably served as the writer/editor of a variety of specialty magazines and sections, including Thrive, College Connection, Golden Age and The Workplace. Additionally, Kate has worked as a fundraising professional, aiding nonprofits across the country. She and her husband, Michael, have two dogs – a border collie named Linus, who competes with St. Louis Disc Dogs, and a chow-chow named Mingo.
Ellen joined the Newsmagazine Network in September 2017. In addition to her role as associate editor, Ellen covers the St. Louis County government beat for West Newsmagazine, and schools and bulletin board stories for Mid Rivers Newsmagazine. Prior to this role, she worked at television news stations KARK4 and FOX16 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She earned a BA in Journalism and a BA in Spanish from the University of Arkansas. A St. Louis native, Ellen is a graduate of Cor Jesu Academy high school. When she is not working, Ellen enjoys spending time with friends and family, cooking, reading, being outside and coaching lacrosse.
Brian Flinchpaugh has been a journalist and communications professional in the St. Louis area for more than three decades. A graduate of the University Of Missouri School Of Journalism, Brian is a staff reporter with the Newsmagazine Network, handling print and online coverage of general assignment, local government and feature stories for West Newsmagazine and Mid Rivers Newsmagazine. Brian was a longtime reporter with the Suburban Journals of Greater St. Louis, serving as a St. Charles and St. Louis county government reporter, West County bureau chief and general assignment and education reporter with the St. Charles Journal. He also wrote for the North County Journals, was a general assignment reporter with the St. Louis Globe-Democrat online and has done freelance writing. Brian served as a communications coordinator and public relations manager for the United Way of Greater St. Louis. He served as manager of communications for what is now the East-West Gateway Council of Governments, and as communications coordinator for Provident.
Jessica is a staff reporter covering the Wildwood and Ellisville beats for West Newsmagazine, the O’Fallon beat for Mid Rivers Newsmagazine, and everything and anything in between. She currently lives in Wildwood and graduated from Missouri State University with a BA in Print/Internet Journalism and a Minor in Art. She got her start at Newsmagazine Network with a summer internship in 2015. In her spare time, she enjoys digital drawing and playing video games.
Jim Erickson is a staff reporter for West Newsmagazine covering Ballwin, Chesterfield, Metro West FPD, Monarch FPD and West County EMS/FPD. Jim also is the go-to reporter for stories about veterans, regional development, agriculture and more. He joined West Newsmagazine in 2011. An Illinois native and University of Illinois graduate, Jim has lived in Ballwin since 2008 after retiring from a 40-year career in corporate communications and government affairs with agricultural cooperatives. He previously worked on the editorial staff of an Illinois daily newspaper. He has three grown children.
Bonnie is in her fourth year of writing for West Newsmagazine, mainly covering schools, bulletin board and feature stories. She became a staff member after serving as a Parkway ambassador [media liaison]. In 2016, she added city of Manchester coverage to her regular beats and, in 2018, began covering Town & Country. Bonnie recently celebrated her 20th wedding anniversary with her husband, Tony [both Parkway School District grads]. She is a proud mother and grandmother. Bonnie enjoys reading, scrap booking and trying out new recipes.
Warren graduated from the University of Missouri and has worked for several newspapers as well as United Press International [UPI] in the past. In addition to writing sports articles for West Newsmagazine, Warren designs sports pages at the Belleville News-Democrat and is a freelance writer covering St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues games and news conferences for the Associated Press.
Jonathan grew up in University City and Chesterfield, and is a 1981 graduate of Parkway Central High. He spent two years at Meramec Community College before heading to Southeast Missouri State, where he graduated with a BS in Mass Communications. Jonathan write sports articles for Mid Rivers Newsmagazine and has covered prep and college sports in the St. Louis and St. Charles County areas for 26 years. He is married with two sons and three lovable pups.
Lisa is a West County native [Parkway South, class of 1979], mother of three and soon-to-be empty-nester. She is a graduate of Mizzou’s journalism school, and worked in advertising, marketing and corporate communications before becoming a full-time mom and freelance writer. Lisa has worked with West Newsmagazine and Mid Rivers Newsmagazine since 2013, serving for several years as the company’s astute proofreader, business content editor and, since 2016, as the editor of Health Capsules and Mature Focus.
Suzanne is a national award-winning food and travel writer and award-winning author of “The Gilded Table” and “Unique Eats & Eateries of St. Louis.” Suzanne contributes articles with a focus on food, food history and travel. She is a member of North American Travel Journalists; National Federation of Press Women; International Food, Wine And Travel Writers Association; Les Dames d’Escoffier International; and is a Certified Culinary Professional with the International Association of Culinary Professionals.
A native of Paris, Tennessee [Nashville area], Kevin has more than 40 years of experience as a newspaper reporter and editor. He retired from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as head of its Special Features department. There, he was responsible for the real estate, automotive and employment sections, and created its New Home Folio magazine. Kevin also was one of the original founders of STLtoday.com. He plays the mandolin and guitar with The Perfect Strangers, a local singer/songwriter band.
Amy is a features and food writer for Mid Rivers Newsmagazine. With more than 20 years of experience as a journalist, Amy has covered all aspects of the news in the St. Louis metro area. She has written for Mid Rivers Newsmagazine for the last 13 years, and is currently a grant writer for Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service.
DeAnne is a features and food writer for Mid Rivers Newsmagazine. She also is married with two daughters who keep her very busy! If she is not writing, you will find her with a book, guitar or in a thrift shop – with a coffee in hand. She loves reading, singing and writing music, as well as collecting first-edition books and typewriters.
Sheila Frayne Rhoades
Sheila is a features writer for West Newsmagazine. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and raised there in the Edgar Allan Poe House [her parents were curators]. She received her BA from Villanova University and moved to St. Louis in 1974 to marry her husband, Marlott Rhoades. She currently lives in Ballwin. Sheila’s favorite destinations include Egypt and Australia and she is an Anglophile. She enjoys hosting themed dinners and tea parties as well as murder mysteries and opera. She has a beagle and a black cat.
