Barbecue at its best – you’ll find it at Pappy’s

Where can you get award-winning, competition-style barbecue that’s so good it’s nationally known? St. Peters, of course, at the recently opened Pappy’s Smokehouse. But be forewarned, there will be lines and there’s always the chance a favorite item might sell out early.

Pappy’s opens at 11 a.m., Wednesday through Sunday, but closing time is always expressed as 8-ish or when the food runs out.

Co-owner John Matthews credited sellouts and lines to “our competition barbecue.”

“It’s what we pride ourselves on, and the reason people line up,” he said.

The magic starts with apple wood stoked smokers that produce succulent spiced rubbed ribs along with chicken, turkey, hot links, burnt ends, pulled pork and brisket. 

Pappy’s ribs are available by the slab, half-slab and quarter-slab on a combo plate. Its pulled pork, brisket, turkey, burnt ends and beef hot links are available as overstuffed sandwiches or generously filled platters. Each are paired with sides such as killer baked beans, house-made pork skins and honey glazed cornbread. In addition, the menu boasts a BBQ Salad, a Frito Pie and two combination plates The Big Ben and the Adam Bomb, named for “Man vs Food” host Adam Richman.

Service options include dine in, carryout, curbside and catering. Pappy’s rubs, sauces and swag are available in store or online for nationwide shipping.
