It was announced at the June 24 O’Fallon City Council meeting that ILI Communities, the developer for the proposed Highway K Apartments, had withdrawn their rezoning request related to said property. As a result, the bill related to the rezoning (No. 7302) was removed from consideration.
The bill was sponsored by Ward 2 council members Tom “Duke” Herweck and Lisa Thompson. If passed, it would have authorized rezoning of 7.07 acres of undeveloped land at Hwy. K and Route 364 to enable the construction of a 99 unit apartment development including two 27-unit buildings, three 15-unit buildings, plus a clubhouse and a pool. The new development would have been named “Highway K Apartments.”
The Planning & Zoning Commission had recommended denial of the rezoning request. However, many residents of the adjacent Pheasant Point had spoken and written emails in opposition to the rezoning.
The bill had previously been tabled three times at the developer’s request. The limit on tabling requests is three, meaning the June 24 reading of the bill would have required either a vote or a withdrawal of the rezoning request.
