Francis Howell High’s Junior Varsity Golden Girls dance team recently brought home the national title at the Universal Dance Association National Dance Team Championship in the hip hop category.
“We cannot express how proud we are of our athletes for their work and accomplishments this year,” said team coaches Liz Rowe and Alex Friedman. “On finals day, they had a performance of a lifetime that electrified the room and made everyone in Howell blue so proud! We are so grateful and ecstatic to be named the 2021 (Universal Dance Association) Junior Varsity Hip Hop National Champions and even more grateful for the friendships and life lessons learned along the way.”
There were 15 teams competing in the JV division, with only three advancing to the final round.
This is the JV’s fourth consecutive year attending Universal Dance Association Dance Team Nationals, all of which the team has places in the top five, in addition to medaling three times in the hip hop category.
The team performed a hip-hop mix of songs that was choreographed by Toya Ambrose of T.R.A. Choreography.
“We would like to thank the full coaching staff, Sean Erwin (our AD), booster club parents, and all dancers who have contributed to this accomplishment over the years. Making program history would not be possible without the love and support of all of these people,” Rowe and Friedman said.
