CarShield Field will play host to three collegiate championships this May after the announcement of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) named the O’Fallon stadium one of its nine opening round sites. The facility also hosts the American Midwest Conference tournament and St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament prior to the NAIA opening rounds.
“We are excited to be able to showcase CarShield Field and the City of O’Fallon to baseball players from across the country,” Hoots and CarShield Field General Manager David Schmoll said. “CarShield Field is quickly becoming a destination for collegiate baseball through these tournaments, the O’Fallon Hoots and the CarShield Collegiate League. This is just the beginning of where we see the facility going in the coming years.”
Selections of each site were made in part by the NAIA Baseball National Championship Selection Committee. The committee is comprised of head coaches and administrators from around the nation. Selections take into account geography, facilities and host qualification.
Each of the nine opening round sites will feature five teams. Play will be from May 17-20 and the format will be double elimination. The winner of each will advance to the Avista NAIA Baseball World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, beginning on May 28. A full schedule will be available at a later date.
