Letter to the Editor: Tired of the gloom and doom

To the Editor:

I am tired of the doom and gloom put forth by politicians of both sides as of late. This country will never be split apart by any real crisis.

I am 92 and distinctly remember the Dec. 7 attack by the Pearl Harbor Japanese task force that began WWII for us. I was a freshman in high school at the time and remember seeing long lines at our local post office waiting to enlist for military service. There was rationing of all kinds (gas, food, etc.) but nobody complained.

We drove at 30 mph and grew vegetables in backyard “Victory Gardens.” We bought war bonds and stamps.

In times of real national crisis there will be no Democrats or Republicans. Only Americans.

Richard Dedham
