Weldon Spring increases control of cash donations for parks

The general public occasionally contributes cash donations to Weldon Spring for use in parks and recreation. Up until now, those funds were deposited in a general purpose fund account.

However, on Feb. 22, City Auditor Cindy Bates recommended the establishment of a new “Neighborhood Park and Recreation Improvement Fund” to track and control those cash donations, and ensure they are used in a targeted way as intended. City Administrator Michael Padella and City Treasurer Sue Steiger agreed. On Feb. 23, Padella sent that recommendation to the mayor and Board of Aldermen.

At the Feb. 25 board meeting, Ward 3 Alderman Phil Martiszus moved to follow the auditor’s recommendation and set up the new fund.  The motion passed 6-0.
