Severe Weather Preparedness Week to take place March 1-5

Held annually by the National Weather Service, the Severe Weather Preparedness Week takes place this year March 1-5.

The week is designed to help residents learn more about severe weather safety, including how to prepare for tornadoes, lightning, floods and more.

A statewide tornado drill will be conducted on Tuesday, March 2, at 10 a.m., weather permitting. If the tornado drill is canceled due to weather, the backup date will be Thursday, March 4, also at 10 a.m.

Severe Weather Preparedness Week will focus on the following topics:

  • Monday – Receiving weather information
  • Tuesday – Tornado safety
  • Wednesday – Lightning safety
  • Thursday – Hail/wind safety
  • Friday – Flood safety

Information about each topic is available at weather.gov/lsx/severeweek.
