Phase two of the City Park Playground Expansion is complete. This expansion brought new equipment to the park for community members to enjoy.
Community relations coordinator Mitchell Jordan explained that new features include an updated swing set that complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, featuring parent-child swings and low-to-the-ground climbing stones.
“In addition, visitors will see the new cattail reed climbers,” Jordan said. “This piece was specially designed for this playground, making City Park the only one to have it.”
The playground also received a new layer of wood chip surfacing and borders.
Although the city was unable to host a grand re-opening event for the park due to COVID-19, Jordan said, “The city is excited for all to enjoy the new facilities while practicing safe social distancing.”
This project had been planned by the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee, with a total cost of just under $140,000, and was approved by the Board of Aldermen in June 2020.
