The city of Dardenne Prairie has formally renamed the stretch of Hwy. N located between Bryan Road and Hawks Ridge Trail as Town Square Avenue. City officials unveiled the new name during an official ribbon cutting ceremony on Dec. 3. The name change was approved last spring.
At a Business Roundtable meeting in March 2019, Dardenne Prairie Mayor David Zucker announced plans to rename Hwy. N within city limits to “enable easier identification of business, institutional and residential addresses as being within Dardenne Prairie, instead of in surrounding municipalities.”
Hwy. N runs the entire width of St. Charles County. The renaming of the highway is part of the city’s rebranding efforts, within its long-term plan.
“With shopping, great restaurants and a movie theater, the Town Square Shopping Center really is the commercial heart of our community,” Zucker said. “The renaming is designed to help out-of-town visitors find these dining and retail establishments more easily.”
The renaming includes new lighted street signage.
Chris Fay, owner of Dialed Scooters & BMX, which recently opened in the Town Square Shopping Center, said the change will help foster the retail district’s identity.
“As both a resident and new business owner in Dardenne Prairie, I think the renaming of Hwy. N to Town Square Avenue will not only make it easier for those traveling to our locals’ favorite spots, but also highlight one of this area’s great shopping and entertainment venues,” Fay said. “The renaming adds a personal touch to an already established area.”
