Lutheran High student TJ Lawrence has won the National Heisman High School Scholarship Contest. The scholarship, presented by Acceptance Insurance, extends the Heisman prestige to esteemed male and female high school seniors across the United States by recognizing and rewarding outstanding scholar-athletes.
A $750 college scholarship is awarded to one senior male and one senior female from each state.
From an applicant pool of thousands of high school scholar-athletes graduating with the class of 2021, about 3,600 were named winners in the scholarship contest.
To be eligible, scholarship applicants had to have a weighted GPA of 3.0 or better, be proven leaders and role models within their communities, and participate or have participated in grades 9, 10, or 11 in at least one of the 48 school-sponsored sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee or the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Lawrence is an offensive lineman and linebacker for the Cougars. He also is a member of the school’s wrestling and baseball teams. In addition, he participates in The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Key Club, National Honor Society and Nosotros. Recognized on the High Honor Roll, he has received academic all-state honors.
Lawrence plans to play football in college and major in engineering.
