Commercial recreation facility, liquor store proposed for Hwy. K

Dogwood Social House, LLC has applied for a conditional use permit for an indoor commercial recreation facility and a liquor store at 2601 Hwy. K, the former Gold’s Gym building, which is already zoned as C-2/General Business District.

Gold’s Gym was permanently closed in April 2020, after the COVID-19 pandemic caused its parent company to reassess all under-performing locations in the U.S. The building has been shuttered since then.

Dogwood currently operates similar facilities in Ellisville and Cape Girardeau.

Recreation at the Hwy. K location would include axe throwing, billiards, arcade games, shuffleboard, yard games, karaoke room, bowling, bar and outdoor patio.

Dogwood also has applied for a separate conditional use permit for the sale of alcohol by the drink. Their Hwy. K recreation facility and liquor store would be separate spaces and have separate entrances.

Recreational facility operational hours would be 11 a.m.-midnight, Wednesday and Thursday; 11 a.m.-1:30 a.m., Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday. Liquor store hours were not specified.

Adjacent to the property are Four Seasons Plaza to the north, Dardenne Elementary School to the south, Hwy. K to the east and Brandywine Estates to the west.

Bill No. 7245 to allow or deny the permit was given a public hearing and first reading at the Oct. 8 council meeting.  If the typical process is followed, the second reading and vote for passage would be at the Oct. 22 council meeting.

The Planning & Zoning Commission has recommended approval with nine specific conditions, including a solid barrier between the proposed patio and the school to the south.
