Causing grief for all of its residents, the Sunset Acres Condos development has experienced flooding of common ground, parking lots and basements. O’Fallon’s evaluation of existing storm sewer infrastructure found the system is undersized, with only 60% of the capacity required to pass the design standard for new developments.
The development is located at 1322 Sunview Drive, west of Bryan Road and north of Mexico Road.
At their Aug. 27 meeting, the city council approved resolution 08-27-2020F by a vote of 10-0, authorizing a Sunset Acres Condos Storm Water Improvements Project for a cost not to exceed $397,612.
Fischer Grading, LLC submitted the lowest of five bids and has been awarded the contract for construction. The project will include new storm sewer infrastructure, as well as the removal and replacement of existing pipe with larger capacity storm sewer pipe.
A bond was issued several years ago to pay for top priority stormwater projects. It is paid for by using funds from the city’s Parks/Storm Water sales tax. O’Fallon’s 2020 approved budget includes this project, which will utilize the funds from that stormwater bond.
