Area movie theaters begin reopening

Have you missed the smell of popcorn? Or the thrill of waiting in a darkened theater for the opening scenes of a new movie to fill up a super-sized screen? Take heart. The wait is over.

Area movie theaters begin opening up today with the AMC Streets of St. Charles 9 being among the first. Today only, Thursday, Aug. 20, AMC is offering tickets for 15 cents. The super-low-cost tickets are good for past hits only, including “Black Panther,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “Back to the Future.”

Following opening day, tickets for those same films will cost $5 each. AMC will be rerunning past hits as the release of new movies revs up in the coming months.

Regal Theaters, which owns Great Escape, is scheduled to open its theaters nationwide on Friday, Aug. 21.

Marcus Theatres will open its theaters in the St. Louis area in two stages. On Friday, Aug. 21, it will open St. Charles Cinema and Eagles Landing Cinema. On Friday, Aug. 28, it will open O’Fallon Cinema, Arnold Cinema, Des Peres Cinema, Ronnies Cinema, Chesterfield Cinema and Town Square Cinema.

Enhanced safety protocols will be in place at all locations.
