Council sends charter amendments to April ballot

Actions at the Jan. 23 O’Fallon City Council meeting resulted in the withdrawal of a rezoning request for 8100 Phoenix Parkway and the building of a Senior Community district. The applicant requested both bills be removed from consideration, which the council unanimously approved.

Regarding amendments to O’Fallon City Charter, the council approved placing six separate ballot issues on the April 7 ballot, including one establishing term limits for elected officials. Additional charter amendments will update legislative procedures, tighten ethics requirements, reinforce merit system employment practices, clarify procedures related to budget adoption and bonds, provide for broader participation in the initiative and referendum process and adopt gender-neutral language.
