Enhancing the lives of seniors through art

Mary Beth Flynn

Artfully Aging® began in 2009 when owner and founder Mary Beth Flynn, a professional artist, decided to combine her passion for art with her experience as a caregiver for seniors. The end result was Artfully Aging, a senior art program created to provide seniors with therapeutic art experiences.

In the 10 years since its inception, Artfully Aging has become a leader in providing senior art programs in St. Louis. Artfully Aging is contracted with 45 plus retirement communities throughout the St. Louis and surrounding area. Recently, in an effort to meet the growing need for quality art programs, Artfully Aging has assembled a dynamic and highly skilled team to serve more seniors and senior communities. Artfully Aging is now partnering with home care companies, like Right at Home St. Charles, who sponsors art sessions for their community at large. Artfully Aging is affiliated with the Missouri Arts Council, the Alzheimer’s Association and the National Center For Creative Aging.

Working primarily in watercolor, Artfully Aging’s guided sessions allow participants to tap into their own creativity. In addition to creating personal works of art, participants realize a sense of relaxation and community with their peers. Artfully Aging caters to participants of all skill and care levels, from the first timers to more experienced artists. Artfully Aging’s wide array of painting programs means participants are free to follow instructions or work independently.

“At the end of the session I’ve heard people say, ‘That hour went by so fast’ or ‘This was so nice and relaxing’, Mary Beth said. “It just makes you feel so good.”
