Beef. That’s what’s for dinner, especially in O’Fallon where Walnut Grill owner Eric Vogel says, “We have some great steak options.”
“We have USDA Prime Sirloin, we also have a Filet Mignon, we do a New York Strip and a Ribeye,” Vogel said. “All are grilled and finished with our house made Rosemary Garlic Butter and we also offer steak toppers. For example, if someone doesn’t want the house butter, they can do a Gorgonzola White Truffle Glaze or Sautéed Wild Mushrooms.”
But Vogel knows not everyone loves steak the way he does.
“Our Wild Mushroom Chicken is definitely a customer favorite,” Vogel said. “It’s a pan-seared chicken breast topped with wild mushrooms and a porcini cream sauce. That’s our second bestseller in the restaurant.”
On the seafood side, he says the Walnut-Crusted Salmon and the Lemon Caper Flounder are hard to beat, unless you choose the market fish special, which features the best the local fish market has to offer creatively prepared.
“One of the great things about being locally owned is your able to be creative,” Vogel explained. “At each of our locations [he has three with a fourth one coming], we’re able to tweak the menu to meet the needs and desires of the community, so it’s not just the market fish feature that keeps our menu fresh and inviting.”
Customized tweaks, combined with its core menu, have made Walnut Grill one of the fastest growing brands in the greater St. Louis area. Vogel opened his first local Walnut Grill in 2014. Today, he has restaurants in Ellisville, Sunset Hills and O’Fallon. His fourth location will open in Chesterfield Valley in April.
“From brunch to dessert, we have food that our customers love!” Vogel exclaimed. “We do breakfast in the restaurant but it’s our weekend brunches that are really popular.” One reason might be Walnut Grill’s Bottomless Bloody Mary and Mimosa Bar, which is available during brunch hours [10 a.m.-2 p.m.] on Sunday only.
While the Marys and Mimosas are bottomless, everything else is a la carte off the restaurant’s breakfast menu. Guests can choose from Crème Brûlée French Toast, featuring caramelized walnuts, crème brûlée batter, powdered sugar and whipped cream with breakfast potatoes on the side, all the way to Mexico with Huevos Rancheros [a crispy flour tortilla and sunny side eggs topped with avocado, chipotle aioli, queso fresco, salsa, pico de gallo and cilantro alongside breakfast potatoes] and Breakfast Tacos.
Breakfast is served until 3 p.m. daily.
In the evening hours, Walnut Grill is the place to visit if you want to sample “one of the best bourbon selections in St. Louis and St. Charles.”
“We have over 100 bourbon selections, including highly sought-after bourbons. I do a monthly bourbon dinner in the restaurant and it sells out every month,” Vogel said. That’s a testament to the quality of Walnut Grill’s wares – both in food and drink – and the passion of its owner. “The selection of the bourbons at Walnut Grill in O’Fallon is something you’re not going to see everywhere.”
Vogel’s passion also carries over to community involvement.
“My brother and I started this company in the communities where we live,” Vogel explained. “That’s important to us. We want to be part of the communities in which our restaurants are located. We do a ton of things with the local schools, local charities. We’re always involved in some sort of charitable event. I sit on the board of directors of Friends of Kids with Cancer, a great organization, and that’s near and dear to my heart.
“Because we’re a locally owned business, our customers are our neighbors. That means something to us. We appreciate their business, and when we can we like to give back.”
