To help residents dispose of unwanted household items, O’Fallon’s Environmental Services Department is sponsoring two events in February: an Electronics & Appliance Recycling Event and a Bulk Waste Drop-off.
On Saturday, Feb. 1, residents can drop off unwanted appliances and electronics for recycling from 8 a.m.-noon in the west parking lot at CarShield Field. The parking lot is located at the southwest corner of Tom Ginnever Avenue and T.R. Hughes Boulevard.
In general, items with an electric cord or that take a battery can be dropped off for recycling. Those items include household appliances, water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners, microwaves, computer monitors [including CRTs], printers, keyboards, laptops, hard drives, scanners, cellphones, pagers, fax machines, answering machines, radios, stereos, speakers, VCR and DVD players, DVDs, power tools, lawn and garden equipment with gas and oil removed, and LED/LCD televisions.
The drop-off is available to all, including schools, churches, businesses and individuals. While the vast majority of items can be dropped off cost-free, there are costs associated with the recycling of:
• LED/LCD/plasma televisions, $20
• CRT monitors, $5
• CRT televisions of 26” or less, $30
• CRT televisions of 27” or greater, $50
• Wood console and true big screen/projection televisions, $50
• Any freon containing unit, $10
Items that will not be accepted include smoke detectors, glass lamps, light bulbs, VHS tapes and alkaline batteries.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, from 7 a.m.-3 p.m., O’Fallon residents enrolled in the city’s trash collection service can take part in a free bulk waste drop-off event for items too large to fit into curbside trash containers. Items can be brought to the O’Fallon waste transfer station, located at 1572 Progress West Lane. For directions, residents should visit ofallon.mo.us/bulk-waste.
To use the drop-off, residents will need a current photo ID showing their O’Fallon address and must unload their own items.
Acceptable items include furniture, carpets, swing sets, bikes, toddler pools, sports and exercise equipment, lawn mowers [no riding mowers] with oil and gas removed, large hand tools, barbecue grills, computer monitors, televisions and fluorescent bulbs.
To request curbside pick-up of these items, residents can call Environmental Services at (636) 272-0477. Weight and size limits may apply. Curbside pickup comes with an additional fee that will be added to the customer’s bi-monthly trash bill.
Unacceptable items include appliances, automotive tires, parts and batteries, yard waste, railroad ties and liquid household hazardous waste such as paints and stains, gas, oil, solvents, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides. For information about disposal of unacceptable and other items, residents are encouraged to visit St. Charles County’s recycling resource webpage at sccmo.org/918/Recycling-Centers or call (636) 949-1800.
Residents can email specific questions about O’Fallon’s Environmental Services program to firstname.lastname@example.org or call (636) 272-0477.
