The time of year for giving has arrived, and Show Me Care Bags offers a unique opportunity to give to those who are receiving cancer treatments during the holiday season.

At the Nov. 14 meeting in St. Peters, Show Me Care Bags was recognized by the county for its efforts with patients of cancer and other serious illnesses in the Missouri area with basic necessities.

Show Me Care Bags are filled with simple items, including a blanket and handwritten note, to provide comfort and entertainment to patients who are receiving treatment for cancer. The care bags are then delivered to state hospitals or mailed to the homes of patients or individuals suffering from severe illnesses. The mission is funded entirely by fundraising efforts and donations.

The nonprofit was founded by Jennifer Preston, who is also looking for volunteers to help fill the bags that are given to the patients during the holiday season and beyond.

Alderman Judy Batemen [Ward 2] commended Preston for “starting something so great” and mentioned how many of the items in the care bags specifically the blankets are very needed for individuals going through chemotherapy.

Preston has a shop located at Mid Rivers Mall in St. Peters where groups can volunteer to help assemble the care bags. Care bags can also be purchased or donated at the shop as well as online at showmecarebags.org.
