O’Fallon confirms council member election for April 7, 2020

Bill No. 7135 sponsored by O’Fallon Mayor Bill Hennessy authorizes a general municipal election on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.  Legislation is required for the city to conduct an election and cover its related costs.

The bill was first read at the Oct. 10 Council meeting.  After a second reading at the Oct. 24 Council meeting, the bill was approved by a vote of 10 to 0.

Five council seats will be up for election on April 7, with one from each ward.  Council members with expiring terms are: Dave Hinman [Ward 1], Rose Mack [Ward 2], Nathan Bibb [Ward 3], Jeff Kuehn [Ward 4], and Mike Pheney [Ward 5].  All terms are three years.

The first day to file a “declaration of candidacy” with the city of O’Fallon for the April 2020 election will be Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Filing will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020. A filing fee of $25 must accompany each declaration filed with the city clerk.

Mid Rivers Newsmagazine previously published a story about this on Oct. 14.
