The Kiwanis Club of O’Fallon recently recognized member Chuck Alphin from the Boys and Girls Club of St. Charles County as a part of its quarterly Community Recognition Program where Kiwanis members honor members who make a difference in the local area. Chuck was honored for his endeavors in bettering the lives of local children.
Specifically, he has served as the Unit Director of the Boys and Girls Club located in the O’Fallon area for over a year. During the summer, he serves up to 150 children at the facility and currently 60 children are coming to the after-school program. The children he works with are a diverse multicultural group. Chuck focuses on attitude and behavior and has them repeat positive affirmations each day.
In watching Chuck interact with the children, you can see that they respect and like the atmosphere he creates. Another focus is on bullying. Chuck helps the children manage conflict and says, “no bullying in my house”.
He and his staff assist children with their homework, give instruction in reading in the reading center, art and more.
