“Rockwall Basics” is the latest class to be offered by the St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Department. Participants ages 6 and up can work with instructors to learn climbing styles and techniques. Participants will also learn rock-climbing terms and lingo, and attain a better knowledge of safety applications. The class is from 10-10:45 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Youth Activity Park, 7801 Hwy. N in Dardenne Prairie. The cost is $10 per person. Space is limited; pre-register online at http://bit.ly/2019RockwallBasics or call the park at (636) 561-4964. A parent-signed waiver must be completed online at stccparks.org or at the park prior to participation.
The rock-climbing wall is only one of many available activities at the Youth Activity Park. The 33,000-square-foot skate/bike course is open year-round and is equipped with nighttime lighting. The attraction also has beginner, intermediate and advanced bowls with coping; a street course; and a snake run scattered with ramps, gaps and more. Skateboards, inline skates, scooters, and BMX bikes can all be used. The park also features a sand volleyball court and half-court basketball.
Indoor amenities include table tennis equipment, foosball table, air hockey, large video gaming area with two flat-screen televisions and a concession stand.
According to the St. Charles County Parks Department, the park is still growing. Construction for the largest asphalt pump track in the country is currently underway at the Youth Activity Park, with more details to come in the future.
