A storm creek causing serious erosion problems in O’Fallon is now slated to receive improvements.

At its Sept. 26 meeting, the O’Fallon City Council unanimously passed a resolution authorizing the construction of the “Stage Coach Landing & Butternut Stage Drive Stream Improvements Project” at a cost not to exceed $1,074,377.50.  The contractor will be Ideal Landscape Construction, Inc., a St. Louis-based company.

The project will include stream bank reconstruction, site grading, retaining wall construction, stormwater infrastructure, vegetation restoration and site restoration. Additional trees and shrubs will also be added along the stream.

The stormwater project is located about 0.7 miles east of Hwy. K and 400 feet south of Laura Hill Road between Butternut Stage Drive and Stage Coach Landing Drive. The storm creek runs between back yards of about 40 homes and collects storm drain runoff from several hundred downhill yards along Laura Hill Road, plus water from storm drains on Butternut Stage Drive and Stage Coach Landing Drive.

The creek and surrounding properties were ranked high in the city’s stormwater project priority list.   Funding will come from a 2015 bond issued specifically for stormwater improvement projects such as this one.
