Summer festivals may be winding down, but in Dardenne Prairie, fun in the sun is just about to get started.

The annual Dardenne Prairie Day returns to its namesake community from noon-10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 at City Hall Park, 2032 Hanley Road. The day promises a tightly packed schedule of activities and entertainment, all culminating in the annual, after dark fireworks display that will light up the city sky.

Family-friendly entertainment

There will be no shortage of unique vendor booths at the festival. In previous years, over 50 booths have been present in the festival’s vendor alley, where local merchants will display their goods from noon-5 p.m.

Craving interactive fun? The festival’s Kid Zone boasts games and activities for children of all ages from noon-6 p.m. Experience inflatable bounce houses, slides and obstacle courses that are as fun as they are challenging. Also included in the area are face painters and balloon artists. The Bubble Bus will roll into town from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Feeling adventurous? A rock wall will be onsite from noon to 5 p.m.

Fun isn’t limited to the Kids Zone. The Family Fun Tent offers more entertainment, performances and demonstrations galore from 12:30-5:15 p.m., including shows by Elliot The Entertainer, The Oh My Gosh Josh Show and magicians. Also featured are martial arts demos from Gracie Barra and Can Do Tae Kwon Do.

Multiple emergency response vehicles will also stop by the events for families to tour and explore, including a SWAT truck, a Bomb Squad vehicle, a fire truck and an ambulance. There also will be a CPR Demo Station.

Bring an empty stomach

Local concessions and food trucks will be available for the duration of the festival, from noon-10 p.m. Enjoy a wide array of local eats and carnival-themed treats from Cardinal’s Nation, The Crooked Boot, Savor the Southwest, Tonioli Brothers Kettle Corn, the Krey Beer Trailer and more! Select food trucks will remain on festival grounds during the evening concert.

Dance the day away

A DJ will provide crowd-pleasing jams from noon-6 p.m. at the festival’s Side Stage. Then, from 5-6 p.m., don’t miss a live musical performance by Mister Malone at the event’s Main Stage. The local band is known for their dance-worthy electronic melodies. From 6-10:30 p.m., you won’t want to miss a live performance by Plastic Kings, which features the former lead vocalist and members of the band Contagious.
