O’Fallon apartment house density reduction approved

O’Fallon Bill No. 7113 sponsored by O’Fallon City Council Member Rose Mack [Ward 2] reduces the R-4 Apartment House District code maximum density to 14 units per acre instead of 20.

At the Aug. 8 council meeting, a public hearing and first reading were conducted. At the Aug. 22 council meeting, the bill was approved by a vote of 9 to 0. Ward 5 Council Member Debbie Cook was excused.

An earlier proposal for this bill also had included establishing density bonuses similar to what surrounding communities already have to theoretically keep O’Fallon competitive with those communities. That proposal requires considerably more discussion and time, council members decided, and was removed from the bill but may be considered in the future.
