New O’Fallon community improvement district approved

At the Aug. 22 O’Fallon City Council meeting, a bill [No. 7112] sponsored by council members Dale Kling and Nathan Bibb [both of Ward 3] that seeks to establish a new South Ridge Community Improvement District [CID] for property south of Old Route N and west of Sommers Road was approved on a vote of 9 to 0. Council member Debbie Cook [Ward 5] was excused. The property includes the existing South Ridge Shops.

Establishing the CID enables up to $500,000 for infrastructure funding to reconfigure Old Route N, currently a dead-end into a field; create site infrastructure including lights and parking lot among other necessities; and create stormwater drainage including a new culvert.  The funding will come from a 1% tax on retail sales for 20 years, or until the $500,000 is recovered, whichever comes first.

This action follows the Aug. 8 council meeting, where a public hearing was conducted and a first reading was given to the bill.
