O’Fallon approves first step for medical marijuana dispensary in city

The O’Fallon City Council has approved a rezoning request intended to enable the use of a portion of an existing building as a medical marijuana dispensary. Green Wellness Releaf would establish and operate the dispensary in a back portion of the building occupied by Faszold Heating & Cooling [Faszold Two, LLC] at 1613 East Terra Lane.

The State of Missouri still must approve Green Wellness Releaf’s application for a license to operate the dispensary, including certification of state-required security and other measures. The proposed location is required as part of that application, due to the state by no later than Aug. 15.

If the state approves the application, Green Wellness Releaf and Faszold Two, LLC will need to submit a formal area plan to O’Fallon’s Planning & Zoning Commission to cover what the converted back of the building will look like, its parking areas, entrances, signage, security and other details. Final approval must come from the city council.

At the Aug. 8 council meeting, the bill for this rezoning [#7110] was approved with nine “yes” votes and one council member excused. The bill was sponsored by council members Dave Hinman and Deana Smith [both of Ward 1].  Nothing else will happen with this until the state decides about the application.
