St. Dominic Crusaders score state title

A wave of blue swept the the room at the O’Fallon City Council meeting on June 13 as council member Tom “Duke” Herweck [Ward 2] read a proclamation recognizing the St. Dominic High girls soccer team for winning the Class 3 State Championship. Each player donned a blue T-shirt showcasing the team’s logo.

On June 1, the Crusaders faced-off against Rockwood Summit, the 2018 champions, at Swope Soccer Village. St. Dominic took the title with a 2-1 score decided by the penalty-kick tiebreaker.

St. Dominic’s team captain said she had been on varsity teams for the past three years, and this was the most tight-knit team with the greatest intensity. The team and the state championship were the highlights of her senior year, she said.
