Fifth graders’ DARE essays recognized

At an O’Fallon City Council meeting on June 13, Mayor Bill Hennessy and council member Tom Herweck [Ward 2] recognized three fifth grade elementary school students and their Drug Abuse Resistance Education [DARE] essays on a citywide level. Each recognized student also read his or her essay before the city council and meeting attendees.

Recognized students included Jason Weinhold from Pheasant Point Elementary, Lance Johnson from Dardenne Elementary and Marissa Schnurbusch from Discovery Ridge Elementary.

Weinhold spoke about the loss of a great uncle, Johnson described the struggle of his mother’s boyfriend with alcohol addiction and sobriety, and Schnurbusch discussed the death of her sister due to drug abuse. All three students were instructed by O’Fallon DARE Police Officer Jill Bloomfield.
