Student gets perfect score at WordMasters

A student representing Academy of the Sacred Heart recently received a perfect score in the last of three meets of 2019’s WordMasters Challenge– a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 150,000 students annually.

Competing in the Gold Division of the challenge, sixth grader Samantha Lynch earned a perfect score of 20. Only 58 sixth graders achieved the score nationwide.

Laura Craig, Lynch’s literature and writing teacher, coached Samantha for the challenge.

The WordMasters Challenge is a critical thinking exercise that encourages students to become familiar with a set of new words considerably harder than grade level vocabulary and challenges them to use the words to complete analogies for different logical relationships. Although most vocabulary enrichment and analogy-solving programs are designed for high school students, WordMasters Challenge materials have been specifically created for younger students in grades three through eight.

The WordMasters Challenge program is administered by a company based in Indiana. Further information is available at wordmasterschallenge.com.
