O’Fallon Police promotes two sergeants to lieutenant

At the April 25 O’Fallon City Council meeting, Police Chief Gary George announced the promotions of Brian Hilke and Mat Worth, who were both promoted from sergeant to lieutenant. The chief brought them to the front of the council chamber and introduced them to all.

George said Hilke and Worth both are superb officers who had successfully gone through a grueling selection process and finished first and second, respectively. He pointed out that these two promotions result in the police department now having a command officer on duty 24/7, with a lieutenant on duty for every shift.

Worth has been with the department for more than 10 years and previously has been a detective sergeant. Hilke has been with the department for 20 years, previously has been a supervisor sergeant for 10 years in the Detective Bureau and has served on the Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad.

Hilke said as far as he knows this is the first time a chief has taken the step of acknowledging promotions and introducing new lieutenants at a city council meeting.

Hilke and Worth both said they were grateful to George and the city for the opportunity and the recognition. At the meeting, they took time to thank their families, who were in the room for the introductions; their fellow officers; and their mentors.
