The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County announced the 2019 Youth of the Year and Junior Youth of the Year recipients. Ashleigh Bick-Dawes was named 2019 Youth of the Year and Mariah Diallo was named Junior Youth of the Year. Both received the designation for demonstrated leadership, strong character and academic achievements. Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program to celebrate the achievements of its members since 1947. Each year, one person from a Boys & Girls Club becomes the National Youth of the Year. The process begins locally and progresses to state, regional and national levels, with an additional military phase for members of BGCA-affiliated Youth Centers on U.S. military installations.
“We are so proud of this year’s Youth of the Year representatives as each displays exceptional skills both inside the Club and out,” Linda Sanchez, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County, said.
Ashleigh Bick-Dawes, a student at Francis Howell Central, was nominated for her leadership in Club activities and involvement in the National Honor Society and Quiz Bowl. Ashley also has an active leadership in the Club’s robotics teams and volunteers at multiple annual events. Mariah Diallo has been a Club member for four years. A founding member of the Book Club, Mariah also volunteers in the Learning Center and serves as a student council member.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County Youth of the Year will compete at the state level in April 2019 in Jefferson City. For more information, visit www.bgcstc.org.
