Quilters needed to wrap kids in love

Camp David campers with their handmade quilts

Camp David, located in Rolla, is seeking help with creating more than 200 quilts for delivery to campers by Memorial Day, May 27.  Since 2004, Camp David has provided a summer camp in June and July each year for children who have a parent in prison. The quilts are used by the kids during their camp stay, serving as a blanket of love for the children. When camp is over, they take the quilts home with them as a reminder of their experience.

In 2018, the project yielded 175 quilts locally. This year, the goal is 230 quilts. But time is short. Finished quilts should be brought to Jackman’s Fabrics in Creve Coeur, or OSewPersonal in O’Fallon before May 22.

Finished quilt sizes size should be 48 inches by 72 inches for kids ages 8-12 and 60 inches by 84 inches for kids ages 13-16. Quilts can be machine quilted or tied but should be made with good quality summer weight cotton fabrics, not flannel, fleece or cuddle fabrics. Simple patterns and colorful fabrics are sought. Kids like animals, critters and bugs.  Horses are popular, as are superheroes and geometrics.
