The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and its volunteer association [SVA] recently announced the winners of the 29th annual Picture the Music contest. Students in kindergarten through sixth grade listened to a piece of orchestral music and interpreted the piece through art. Awards for the Top 100 winners were presented at a ceremony hosted by the SVA at Powell Hall.
Students from the Fort Zumwalt and Francis Howell school districts who received top awards in the competition are: from Dardenne Elementary Jackson Walls, Emily Buchok, Owen Curtis, Rylee Cummins, Elliana Chavez and Jacob Oscar; from Emge Elementary Kylee Burton, Katherine Begley, Riley Flynn and Abigail Perhacs; from Flint Hill Elementary Aaron Stallings, Kiera Boyle, Maddie Hucker, Malin Redman and Hadde Catizon; from Hawthorn Elementary Kara Wilson and Carter Green; from Rock Creek Elementary Eli Sandhaus, Addylen Ahart and Ben Crouch; and from Daniel Boone Elementary Natalie Shinaberry.
Artwork of the top 100 winners will be displayed at the following locations during the Picture the Music traveling exhibition through March 25 at the St. Peters Cultural Arts Centre.
Picture the Music is a free, annual art competition presented by the St. Louis Symphony Volunteer Association and sponsored by the Employees Community Fund of Boeing. This year’s piece was Manuel de Falla’s Ritual Fire Dance. More than 12,500 students participated and 436 pieces of art were submitted, with the top pieces selected by seven judges with backgrounds in art and music.
