It was announced on Jan. 17 that the O’Fallon City Council has officially come to an agreement with the River City Rascals baseball team that will allow the team to return to CarShield Field, 900 TR Hughes Blvd., for the 2019 season.
The decision comes after an announcement in October 2018 that the city had locked the team out after the team allegedly failed to pay rent on multiple occasions.
“We are pleased to have the River City Rascals back for the 2019 season,” O’Fallon Communications Director Tom Drabelle said in an official release. “The Rascals continue to be a popular attraction for our residents, and we look forward to seeing the team’s enhanced marketing efforts for the upcoming season. With this new lease in place, we can continue to provide our residents with high-level professional baseball at CarShield Field, and we can make sure this unique asset is used to its fullest extent both now and in the future.”
2019 marks the team’s 21st season in the city.
The new lease calls for the team to pay the city $165,000 for the 2019 season. The amount includes rent, turf fees and revenues from events and naming rights.
According to the official release, the city will continue discussions with the team regarding the development of an agreement that would extend beyond 2019.
In addition to the River City Rascals, the field also hosts other local teams, including the Christian High Eagles baseball team.
