The improvements funded along a section of Fifth Street between Hwy N. and St. Charles Street in the downtown area of Cottleville are almost finished.
“I think is about 99 percent done,” said Cottleville City Administrator Rich Francis.
Those improvements include curbs, upgraded sidewalks, upgraded lighting and signage, and 71 new parking spaces. Francis said the improvements resemble those on Main Street and Hwy. N. Weather permitting the work should be completed by the end of the year.
Francis said the improvement will help pedestrian safety and provides better access to restaurants and businesses in the area.
“Parking is at a premium in old town Cottleville,” he said.
The improvements cost about $800,000. Gershenson Construction served as general contractor but Francis said the city did much of the construction management in-house.
