Students nominate teacher for LifeChanger Award

LifeChanger of the Year Award nominee Aaron Pearson with his students at Bryan Middle

Aaron Pearson, a teacher at Francis Howell’s Bryan Middle and former Bryan Teacher of the Year, has been nominated for the 2018-19 LifeChanger of the Year Award. Pearson is a Spectra teacher who works with students in the district’s gifted program. He was nominated for the LifeChanger of the Year Award by two students who wish to remain anonymous.
“Before I came to his class, I was shy in public and didn’t feel needed,” one of Pearson’s nominators said. “He showed us that it’s okay to be ourselves and that we are perfect just the way we are.”
Pearson said, “I love my job because of the relationships I build with the students and that I can impact their lives in a way that will help them be successful in life. Reading what the nominating students wrote and all of the comments on the nomination page warms my heart and helps validate what I do.”
Principal Dr. Suzanne Leake said, “Mr. Pearson’s success is rooted in the relationships he builds with students. He ignites their imagination and challenges them to be their personal best … Mr. Pearson welcomes the challenge to provide more than just academic enrichment. He is definitely committed to the well-being of his students both inside and outside the classroom.”
Pearson serves as a mentor to students, a role in which he’s able to offer guidance and support, as he did when one of his nominators was struggling.
“He was the only one who caught on and got help for me right away,” the nominator said. “To this day, he still looks out for me. Even when his students graduate from his class, he makes it known that he is still there for them whenever they need him. My life has been forever changed by Mr. Pearson. He has done the same exact thing for hundreds of other students year after year. There is no one more deserving of this title than him.”
The LifeChanger of the Year Award recognizes and rewards the best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence and leadership.
