The Young People’s Theatre is holding open auditions for Disney’s “Newsies” at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, in the Daniel J. Conoyer Social Sciences Building auditorium at St. Charles Community College, 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville. Callbacks are at 4 p.m. that same day.
Auditions consist of singing a song and performing a dance routine, both of which will be taught, and brief readings from the script. Students should wear comfortable clothes and dance shoes, and bring tap shoes if they tap.
Those auditioning must be accompanied by an adult. Before auditioning, students should download and complete the audition form, which can be found at stchas.edu/ypt. To be cast, students must either have had Introductory Theatre Workshop I or concurrently enroll in that class in addition to being in the production.
Rehearsals begin on Thursday, Jan. 10, and will be held from 6-9:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturdays. Not all students will be required to be at every rehearsal. Daily rehearsals begin 10 days before the performance.
Performances are at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 22, Saturday, March 23, Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30; and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, Sunday, March 24, Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31.
