To spread holiday cheer throughout the community, residents are invited to help area food pantries keep pace with local families’ needs by donating to O’Fallon’s 18th annual Cornucopia of Care.
The food drive begins on Monday, Nov. 5, with collection canisters at various locations ready to receive donations of non-perishable food and personal care items through Saturday, Dec. 15.
All items are distributed to local food pantries.
Among the most-needed food items are boxed cereal, oatmeal, pancake mix, peanut butter, instant potatoes and rice along with meal kits like pasta and sauce, beef stew or chicken and dumplings. Personal hygiene items, paper products and cleaning supplies also are appreciated.
“We are fortunate to live in a compassionate community,” said Kathy Halstead, O’Fallon’s volunteer services manager. “There are many families struggling daily to keep food on their tables, and the challenges they face seem to grow around the holiday season. The generous donations received throughout this drive will help them to stretch their limited income, especially as the impact of winter could cause them to choose between heat and food.”
Individuals, organizations and businesses are welcome to drop off donations of non-perishable canned and boxed food and personal care items during regular business hours at the following sites:
• O’Fallon Municipal Centre, 100 North Main Street [east lobby open 24/7]
• Renaud Spirit Center, 2650 Tri Sports Circle
• O’Fallon’s Celebration of Lights in Fort Zumwalt Park
