For O’Fallon residents who have documents, records or papers that they would like to have destroyed, O’Fallon’s Environmental Services Department is hosting a free event to safely dispose of unwanted paperwork.
The Shred Event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 20, from 8 a.m.-noon at the Environmental Services facility, 1550 Progress West Lane in O’Fallon.
To participate, residents should put documents they want destroyed in cardboard bankers boxes, or cardboard boxes of a similar size, and drop them off at the facility. Please make sure the boxes are not too heavy to lift and not filled to overflowing. Up to five banker-size boxes can be brought to the event, free. After the first five boxes, additional boxes can be dropped off for $5 each. Residents must bring photo identification showing O’Fallon residency, and all trash customers must have their account in good standing in order to participate. All of the material will be shredded including the boxes if they are not wanted back. The event is indoors, so it will be rain or shine.
Please do not bring computer discs or hanging file rods. If you can tear it, then you can shred it with this complimentary service. It is okay for documents to have staples or paper clips.
