Lake Saint Louis intends to recognize and honor their former mayors.
The city’s Board of Aldermen approved a bill at its Oct. 1 meeting that establishes a recognition policy for honoring former mayors.
City Administrator Paul Markworth told the board in September that the policy arose when he was told that former Mayor Ed Hajek’s health had taken a turn for the worse and was asked if the city had a recognition program. Markworth suggested the city present a proclamation and a city flag to Hajek. The board agreed but also suggested that the city develop a place to display photos of mayors and when they served at city hall. The city currently doesn’t have a photo display of its mayors and when they served.
The board voted 5-0 to approve the bill with Alderman Jason Law [Ward 3] absent. The board gave no indication of when they may make a proclamation or where the photos of mayors photographs would be placed in city hall.
Hajek served as mayor for more than 10 years in the 1980s and early 1990s.
