On Friday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m., O’Fallon’s POW/MIA Recognition Day Ceremony will be held on behalf of American troops who are unaccounted or remain as prisoners of war on foreign soil or missing in action. The ceremony will be held at O’Fallon Veterans Memorial Walk, 800 Veterans Memorial Parkway.
Bob Garvey, a World War II airman who was held as a prisoner of war in Germany for nearly a year, will be the guest speaker.
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 458 and Am Vets Post 106 will host the ceremony, which includes the posting of the colors, dressing of the table, candle lighting, the laying of the wreath, a rifle salute and “Taps.”
Destiny Harding, a sophomore at Living Word Christian School, will sing the National Anthem and “God Bless America.”
Veterans Memorial Walk is just off Interstate 70 at Exit 219. Free parking is available.
