Don’t miss Dardenne Prairie Day, Sept. 22

By: Ellen Lampe

The annual Dardenne Prairie Day is just around the corner! Mark your calendars for this year’s event which takes place from noon-10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22 at City Hall Park, 2032 Hanley Road. The day promises a schedule packed with activities and entertainment, followed by a fireworks show to end the night.

The community event features live entertainment, children’s activities, carnival games, exhibitions by local groups, shopping and, of course, top-notch food!

Fun for the whole family

This year, Dardenne Prairie Day features about 55 vendor booths, in which local merchants will display their wares from noon-5 p.m.

There is no shortage of entertainment planned for the children at the Kids Zone, including a rock wall, inflatable bounce houses, inflatable slides, inflatable obstacle courses, face painting, a balloon artist, a visit from the Bubble Bus and tours of a fire truck and ambulance. Kids Zone activities go from noon-6 p.m. But family fun isn’t limited to the Kids Zone! Head over to the Family Fun Tent for more entertainment, performances and demonstrations happening from 12:30-5:30 p.m, including a show by Elliot the Entertainer, Tae Kwon Do demonstrations, crafts, and circus and balloon shows.

Groove into the night

A DJ will be providing tunes for the crowd from noon-6 p.m. at the Side Stage. From 6-10 p.m., you won’t want to miss a live performance by Contagious at the Main Stage!

The five-man band has become one of the most sought-after groups in the Midwest. Contagious has performed on the main stage for NASCAR and the NHL, and has opened for major recording artists such as Cheap Trick, Bret Michaels, Foreigner and Nelly.

Contagious describes its repertoire as “a crafty mix of polished pop-rock with the best classic rock hits.” You may hear hits from current artists like Bruno Mars and The Black Eyed Peas, or you may travel back in time with hits from bands like Journey and Aerosmith.

Stick around for a fireworks show following Contagious’ performance.

Come hungry

Concessions and Food Trucks will be open for the entirety of the festival, from noon-10 p.m. In addition to local concessions, enjoy food from Cardinals Nation, Sarah’s Cake Stop, The Cheese Shack, Ray Ray’s Kettle Corn and JK Leathers.
